Section 1: Eligibility for membership

  1. To qualify for membership of the gym, you must either: -

    1. possess a valid permanent staff pass for Temple Quay House or Rivergate; or
    2. be a current civil servant, or a person working directly or indirectly for the civil service, who works in the immediate vicinity and is able to satisfy the building security arrangements so that you can obtain a temporary visitor pass for each visit; or
    3. provide proof of membership of the DEFRA Dimensions gym in Nobel House or Whitehall Place (with whom we have reciprocal membership arrangements) and be able to satisfy the TQH building security arrangements so that you can obtain a temporary visitor pass when visiting the TQH building.
  2. If the criteria in paragraph 1 above cannot be met, membership will be refused. However, this requirement will be reviewed by the Committee on an annual basis;
  3. Any new member is strongly advised to attend a session on induction training carried out by the fitness adviser before using the equipment; and
  4. If a member or potential member has:
    • Any medical condition or history of a medical condition; or
    • Has no recent experience of strenuous exercise

he/she is strongly advised to consult their doctor before applying for, or continuing in, membership.

Section 1a: Reciprocal membership of DEFRA Dimensions gyms in Nobel House and Whitehall Place, London

  1. THFA gym members may use the DEFRA Dimensions gyms in Nobel House and Whitehall Place, London, without charge, through reciprocal membership arrangements.  Members wishing to use these facilities should contact one of the following to be signed-off to use the facilities before access can be granted:

Section 2: Subscriptions

  1. The minimum period for the payment of any subscription is three months.
  2. Your subscriptions must be paid up to and including the date the gym is being used.
  3. Refunds of subscriptions will not be given under any circumstances

Section 3: Using the gym equipment safely

  1. Members are bound by the health and safety legislation that applies to the remainder of the Temple Quay House. To this end, the following conditions apply and must be strictly adhered to:-
    • Pieces of equipment, such as the weights, must be put away after use so that they do not endanger the safety of others;
    • Members must not use any piece of equipment which they are not familiar with;
    • Any defect in any item of kit must be reported to a member of the Club Committee so that a notice can be placed on the piece of equipment concerned and repair(s) requested.
    • In order to maintain cleanliness and prevent the spread of germs, equipment must be cleaned with the wet wipes provided at the end of each use;
    • The cups provided for drinking water must be placed in the repository after use and disposal of any water remaining after use;
    • Litter must be placed in the litterbin provided;
    • Building security arrangements must be followed at all times;
    • Procedures for summoning assistance are set out by the telephone in the gym which is located on the central pillar. Members must familiarize themselves with these procedures so that help can be summoned with the minimum of delay;
    • Although the Committee members will take every effort to ensure the safety of persons using the gym, the main responsibility for health and safety rests with individual members when using the gym. See also paragraph 3 of the gym constitution.
    • Temple Quay building procedures must be followed for dealing with any accidents that occur in the gym. This includes reporting the details of any accident to the Facilities Management provider to be recorded in the accident book.

Section 4: Disqualification from the gym

  1. The Committee is empowered to disqualify either indefinitely or such period as appears appropriate any member who fails to observe the rules in this section or in sections 1 to 3:-
    • Failure to observe the rules;
    • Physical harm caused by one member to another;
    • Harassment of another member;
    • Misuse of equipment;
    • Removal or defacement of instructions, advice or any other material displayed which displayed by or on behalf of the Committee;
    • Any other act that is prejudicial to the safe operation of the gym;
    • Where the use of gym equipment may be prejudicial to a member’s health;
    • Any breaches in health and safety;
    • Theft of any equipment or other properties belonging to the gym;
    • Permitting access to the gym by a non-member, either directly and/or by disclosing details of the security code.

Section 5. Power to disqualify

  1. Any decision to disqualify a member if approved by the Committee will be final.
